Heroic Decepticon Megatron

From the perspective of the Heroic Decepticons, Megatron is one of the most misrepresented characters in Transformers. As leader of the Decepticons, his influence is huge. In fact, there would be no Heroic Decepticons without him.

In terms of his physical appearance, Heroic Decepticon Megatron is unique. There is a bit of resemblance to the G1 version, but he also looks a bit like the Shattered Glass Megatron, as well as IDW Megatron. The sound of his voice is a little bit of G1, but not entirely.

Both his personality and background are also closer to Shattered Glass Megatron than any other canonical version. Though his main transformation mode is based upon the G1 version, that of a gun, this can vary depending on the universe and timeline within the greater Heroic Decepticons multi-verse. In the main timeline, he started out as a military advisor to Sentinel Prime, before shifting his focus as a theoretical mathematician and inventor for a time. Eventually, escalating inter-factional tensions on Cybertron force him to put aside his solitary lifestyle in order to help his long-time friend, Starscream, and all those of his own kind who are caught in the current conflicts. You can read the full story in Prequel: Origins.

It should very much go without saying that Heroic Decepticon Megatron is the kind of leader that is rare – embodying both strength and wisdom as a great military leader, coupled with great intelligence, and the skills of a strong warrior. However, these admirable qualities are nothing without his never-ending compassion for the Decepticons who have placed their faith in him. He feels strongly protective of them and will sacrifice everything to ensure their safety and well-being.

This is very much unlike the canonical G1 Megatron who, I am saddened to say, is nothing like the model Decepticon leader that he should have been, failing on almost every count that matters. In the end, it was this personality flaw more than anything else that led to his demise, introducing Galvatron in his stead, and causing the inevitable breakup of his original team. What was he missing? The very qualities that Heroic Decepticon Megatron possesses in abundance – loyalty, compassion, wisdom, and respecting those under his command. Respect – that’s a big one.

One thing is certain – Heroic Decepticon Megatron is the greatest Decepticon leader of all time, and always will be. If he had been in charge of the G1 Decepticons, they would have been unbeatable, a force to be reckoned with. Nothing would have stood in their way, not even Unicron. But then again, that was the script – love it or hate it, take it or leave it. Today, I am here to rewrite the script, and to correct those past wrongs that created a false Megatron – an imposter, if you will. Is it any wonder, then, that G1 Starscream found himself constantly at odds with him, and sought to overpower him as leader at every opportunity? Perhaps, this was no coincidence. Perhaps, he was trying to tell us something.

The Journey into Vector Sigma Part 2

Summary: The Decepticons embark upon a perilous journey into the core of Cybertron, determined to save their home planet from a great Reset – but will they succeed in stopping Thunderwing and the destructive menace that has been unleashed?

This is the second in a three-parter, Episodes 6 – 8 of the series Rise of the Decepticons. To avoid spoilers, please make sure that you have read Part 1 (Episode 6), FIRST!

Without giving anything away, this episode was difficult for me to write in some parts, but it does contain a lot of interesting battles and turn of events. Sentinel Prime was especially fun though because it seems that he is becoming a little wiser, a little more responsible, I feel. Of course, when the future of your home planet and the life of every mech on it is at stake, you have to do whatever you can to help prevent a catastrophe – even if it means working side-by-side with the Decepticons to help defeat a mutual enemy. Or two.

In this episode, the strength and courage of the Decepticons is tested to the limit. Megatron, Sentinel Prime, and the Decepticon seekers meet their match with an enemy that is far more powerful than any mech on Cybertron has ever encountered before. Megatron, in particular, is the only one with a chance to be able to defeat it, but will he prevail? You’ll have to read the story to find out.

I do enjoy Nacelle’s quirkiness and how this episode sets him up to become the very unlikely hero, but you will have to wait for Episode 8 to find out exactly how that all pans out.

The Journey into Vector Sigma Part 1

Summary: When the Key to Vector Sigma is stolen by Thunderwing, the Decepticons set out on a mission to find him.

This is the first in a three-parter, Episodes 6 – 8 of the series Rise of the Decepticons. The title, The Journey into Vector Sigma, alludes to the events that will unfold in parts 2 and 3, but this first part is focused more on the adventures leading up to those events. This episode could have been titled The Key to Vector Sigma just as well.

Without giving too much away, the journey begins when Thunderwing steals the fabled Key from a museum in Iacon, leaving death and destruction in his wake. The story steadily picks up pace and hopefully by the end of part 1 has left the reader (you) wanting to continue reading on to part 2. There are several canonical references that have been reimagined for the Heroic Decepticons Universe, including a rebooting, if you will, of many G1 characters and their histories, from both the cartoon and the comics verse.

As with typical action/adventure, “made-for-TV” cartoon episodes, this one is no different – it contains fast-paced action, one-liners, drama, suspense, surprises, and big explosions, and is written specifically for a general audience.

Episode 6 introduces a slew of new characters that are mentioned for the first time in the Heroic Decepticons Universe including Thunderwing, as well as the insufferable Nacelle (who you can’t help but feel sorry for, the poor sap). It also sees the return of others including Optronix, Hot Rod and the cadets, and Alphia Trion. As a side story, this episode is a turning point for Optronix in particular, which (without giving away any spoilers) will become more important as time goes on.

The Spark Trap

The spark trap is a very old, previously long lost artefact of highly mysterious origins and with an obscure history. All we know for sure about it is that:

  1. It is legendary, and ancient;
  2. It was originally forged or used by early Autobots;
  3. It possesses the power to trap sparks.

If you want to find out exactly what happens when Scavenger takes possession of it, you can read my new short story entitled The Spark Trap, posted at: FanFiction.net and Lexicon.

Spoiler ahead…

Description:

Highly intelligent and skilled in all aspects of battle dynamics, Megatron embodies the essential leadership qualities that few other Cybertronians of his class and stature could ever claim to possess. Megatron leads those who are brave enough to follow him into battle with a strength of purpose and determination that is second to none. He is unwilling to compromise the values and tenets which underlie the Decepticon cause for any reason, while his compassion for the safety and well-being of those under his command is only matched by his fierceness in battle against the enemy.

Back Story:

Many vorns ago, Megatron and a small group of like-minded Cybertronians formed the Decepticons, a rebellious splinter group of the Destrons – Cybertron’s military class that eventually became extinct – in response to the ever-increasing violence and corruption prevalent among Cybertron’s then-ruling class, the Autobots, and a number of militant rogue factions within the Destron class system. His position as leader of the Decepticons was largely unplanned; as a former mathematician he never imagined that the escalating civil unrest on his home planet would ultimately shape his destiny and pave the way for him to become one of Cybertron’s greatest and most powerful leaders.

Motto:

“Peace through strength.”
